The shocking scene was witnessed by parishioners and captured on a live broadcast. Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari was delivering a sermon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Guayaquil, Ecuador, when a large wooden crucifix mounted on the wall behind the altar suddenly came loose and fell directly onto him. The impact was so severe that he collapsed instantly. Parishioners screamed for an ambulance as the live stream continued. “Father, Father… call an ambulance!” The archdiocese later confirmed his death. It remains unclear what caused the heavy cross to detach and fall. A moment of worship turned into a tragedy, witnessed live by those inside the church and those watching online.
